The profile of the birds head is a reminder of the far sightedness of the Manaia, the ability to look ahead and make wise decisions for the benefit of others

The Hei Matau ensures that the “catch” of all things good; mental, physical and spiritual will never be lost.

Just as the fisherman in early Maori history worked hard for his village and generously shared his “catch” with all, the wearer of this carving has worked extremely hard, shared his wealth of knowledge and used his expertise and experience to benefit those around him.

The wearer of this pendant is known and will be forever remembered for his great strength of character and his sincere interest in the welfare of others.
